Lancaster County Brewers

Lancaster County Brewers is more than sharing the great beers of the world. Many, but not all, club members are homebrewers, so natually one of our favorite activities includes tasting each other’s homebrews as well as micro-brews and imports we may have discovered. Members of Lancaster County Brewers share tips, techniques, and recipes. Ocassionally brewing demonstrations and presentations by members of Lancaster County Brewers or brewers from local micro-breweries are held. From time to time we hold homebrew style contests and judge ourselves as to how closely our brews match up to the style guidelines. Some of the styles brewed recently by Lancaster County Brewers are pale ales, brown ales, stouts, and wheat beers. Members of Lancaster County Brewers often bring examples of micro beer they have found during trips, vacations, etc. to share, usually with a story or two. Three or four times a year the Lancaster County Brewers club buys certain styles of micros to be evaluated. Recent micro tastings have included Stout, Wheat, Brown ale, IPA, and Octoberfest at Lancaster County Brewers club meetings.

Two or more “field trips” or “road trips” to local brew pubs, microbreweries or micro-brew events are organized each year by Lancaster County Brewers with a Designated Driver to ensure a safe and enjoyable outing. An annual train trip to Philly is usually planned. A yearly club picnic in October brings out the culinary capabilities of some members to complement their brewing expertise.

As a community service project, the club has adopted a 2-mile stretch of Dry Tavern Road near Adamstown to keep clear of litter. We usually do this once in the spring and once in the fall, and since Stoudt’s Brewery is so nearby we go there to reward ourselves afterwards with a few pints.

And remember, you don’t have to be a brewer
to come and share great beer!
